Why should I choose a Prosthodontist over a General Dentist or Denturist?

Prosthodontists are dental specialists in the restoration and replacement of teeth.

Don’t Be Misled:
Do not expect your general dentist or a denturist to obtain the results routinely obtainable in our prosthodontic specialty office. General dentists try to stay on top of all the general routine treatments patients need but can’t be expected to be capable of providing specialized treatment. A denturist is not a doctor or specialist and only completes about a 16 month trade course that allows them to provide a cook book approach to making ‘one style suits all’ dentures. There are some capable dental specialists in Mexico and elsewhere but always beware of ‘discount dentistry’. An attempt to obtain specialty treatment from those without the appropriate training and experience is likely to create problems and regret.

A referral from your dentist is not required

Which is right for me?

Tooth Repair

Whenever possible, Dr. Neale offers tooth repair  treatments, as we recognize this is preferable to losing a tooth.

  • crowns – A crown replaces the outer surface of a tooth, on all sides and on the biting surface
  • veneers – A veneer replaces the outer surface of a tooth but usually only on the front and biting edge
  • fillings – There are four kinds of fillings: silver amalgam (grey color), gold (gold color), composite resin (white) and ceramic (white)

We also provide extremely thorough dental cleanings by our dental hygienist if this is not already provided by your general dentist.

Tooth Replacement

Dr. Neale provides treatment involving all forms of tooth replacement, which can include:

  • Implant Crowns – Implant crowns are self-supporting, non-removable structures that most closely replaces a missing tooth or multiple teeth for the best strength and longevity.
  • Bridges – Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth but are non-removable and have to be attached to adjacent teeth on both sides of the missing tooth (teeth).
  • Removable Partial Dentures – Removable partial dentures are generally less expensive, provide less strength and do not look, feel or work as naturally as real teeth, implant crowns or bridges.
  • Adhesive Bridges – Adhesive Bridges are similar to regular bridges but generally can only replace a single tooth because they have limited strength.

Dentures

Dr. Neale believes that no one should notice that you wear dentures.

  • Complete Dentures – Complete dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower or both jaws and are removed for cleaning and during sleep.
  • Implant Dentures – Implant dentures start with a good denture and then add implants under the denture to provide improved denture stability, comfort and confidence.
  • Immediate Dentures – Immediate dentures are made before your natural teeth are removed and are fitted to your mouth during the same appointment that your natural teeth are removed.

SERVING NORTHERN ALBERTA

Dr Neale’s Edmonton office services patients from Edmonton, the surrounding communities (Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc) and all across northern Alberta. You do not need to have a referral from your regular dentist as patients can contact our office directly to arrange treatment.

Our primary treatment focus is to provide optimal tooth replacement that restores our patients appearance, speech, ability to eat, health, comfort and confidence. Tooth replacement can involve one or multiple teeth and it can also involve all the teeth. Teeth are replaced with bridges, implant crowns, partial or complete dentures. We also repair damaged teeth as we recognize this is often preferable to losing a tooth.

Restore Your Smile

We routinely restore smiles and teeth that have been compromised or lost due to decay, gum disease, fracture or wear, congenital (birth) or developmental defects and trauma such as work place or motor vehicle accidents.
