I am so glad I decided to go ahead with the
implanted replacement for my lower teeth. I was down to less than 10 natural
teeth in my lower jaw and eating had become a bit of a challenge, not to
mention smiling! I knew I had to something drastic, but the specter of my
mother's final years, when she could no longer get dentures that fit (she was
96 when she died) and therefore had to give up eating any of her favorite foods
was before my eyes. I knew I didn't want to end up with the same problems.
Therefore, I opted for implants which, I understand, will not give the same
problems later in life.
I now have had the implants for 6 months, so we
have had time to get used to one another. I found myself enjoying things like
corn on the cob the same way I always had, with no thought for my teeth
slip-sliding away. They don't come loose and threaten to land in someone's lap
if the suction fails (as happens with dentures). They have never given me any
problems or pain in the six months I have had them and even the installation
period was relatively OK (or maybe, like childbirth, your memory fades). I know
your records show an installation period of some 6 months, but as far as I was
concerned, it was 5 weeks from extraction of the final teeth to permanent
installation of the implant device.
I would recommend that a person choose a period
of relative downtime if they have the entire lower set of teeth replaced, but
it was well worth it and I would heartily recommend people to give serious
consideration to this option.
Thanks to all of you and to Dr Zosky and his
staff, it was a relatively pleasant experience - and the result is everything I
had hoped. Almost as good as natural teeth!
